South Side Festival Speakers
Speaking Up at Southside Festival - 03 July 2008

Southside Speakers stall at the Southside Festival June 2008Several members of Southside Speakers and Glasgow Toastmasters helped "spread the word" at the first Southside Festival at Queens Park on 28th June 08.  At our Southside Speakers Stall we had leaflets and information about our club and we encouraged people to take the first steps to improve their confidence and communication skills.

Many thanks to our enthusiastic members who used all their communication skills in giving information and in persuading and encouraging people to come along to SouthSide Speakers. Many people are nervous about joining a speaking club but they were able to see that our club offers a friendly and supportive environment and we look forward to welcoming several new guests to our upcoming meetings.

The Art of Evaluation Workshop

The Art of Evaluation Workshop held on 25th October 2007 was an interesting, informative and enjoyable event. Evaluation is one of the core activities at Toastmasters speaking clubs and this opportunity to increase our understanding and skills was greatly appreciated.

We were delighted to welcome Toastmasters from other clubs including: Aberdeen Toastmasters, Capital Communicators (Ediinburgh) and Glasgow Toastmasters.

Our thanks for organising this successful evening go to Jane Cameron, and all who assisted with the event.

Press Release: 12 August 2007

Toastmasters helps to ‘Look Better, Feel Better & Live Better’

Author and NHS Award-winner Elizabeth Roddick, a Glasgow Pharmacist, has become one of Southside Speakers many Competent Communicators. Southside Speakers Glasgow Elizabeth Roddick

Southside Speakers Club, part of Toastmasters International, has helped pharmacist and author Elizabeth Roddick confidently and charismatically present to 100’s of people at this year’s Edinburgh Festival.

Elizabeth discovered that she could look many years younger than her age and change her life for the better. In order to share her secret and guide everyone through the lifestyle changing exercise she wrote her book ‘Look Better, Feel Better, Live Better’. However, that wasn’t enough as Elizabeth wanted to reach more people but first she had to perfect her public speaking skills in order to stand in front of audiences around the UK and tell her story.

Elizabeth read about the benefits of Toastmasters by searching the internet for help and came across http://www.southsidespeakers.org.uk/ her local Toastmasters organisation.

Elizabeth commented, ‘Southside Speakers has been invaluable in helping me to achieve my goals of presenting to audiences at every opportunity and particular at this year’s fringe festival in Edinburgh’

Toastmasters offers a proven way to improve your speaking, listening and leadership skills. Whether it is about improving your confidence in order to talk to your boss, presenting to clients, giving that dreaded wedding speech or simply to meet like minded people then Toastmasters can help. For less than the price of a weekly exercise class you can regularly participate in a fun and supportive environment and we guarantee you will become a better, more competent speaker and leader. The increased confidence you gain will help you succeed in whatever path you've chosen in life. You will be amazed at your own potential to:

- Deliver great presentations
- Lead teams and conduct meetings
- Give and receive constructive feedback
- Be a better listener

Toastmasters International is the undisputed world leader in public speaking training, with over 10,500 clubs and more than 200,000 members in approximately 90 countries it is the best way to improve your confidence and skills in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Elizabeth is currently appearing at the Green Room, Guthrie Street, Edinburgh everyday at 11.40am until 26th August.

The next meeting for Southside Speakers will take place on Thursday 23rd August at Pollokshields Burgh Hall at 7pm.
